Comitti Clocks
For over 150 years, Comitti of London has been making the finest quality timepieces and barometers. Onorato Comitti initially established his workshops in London as a maker of barometers and related instruments. In a very short time his beautiful products were gracing the homes of discerning customers. Yet it was not until the late Victorian period that the company diversified into clockmaking. Still, many of the styles made in these early days continue to be available today and they are recognized as English classics. Comitti’s collection includes mantel clocks, wall clocks and grandfather clocks.
Comitti’s mantel clocks are esteemed in our shop among our experts because they exude class and old-world charm. Their key-wound mantel clocks honor the past with their mechanical wind-up movements. Perhaps nothing exudes class more than the Queen Anne, with her 9-bell tnest riple chime movement. She is a faithful reproduction of the classic Georgian table models and is sure to be a favorite among collectors of fine timepieces. Equally interesting is the yew wood case of the more modest Regency Arch and it’s passing bell strike on the half-hour and bell strikes for each hour.
Comitti wall clocks are as notable as their mantel clock counterpart. We love how Comitti has remained faithful to the weight-driven style with the Canterbury. Their attention to detail is evident in elements like the secret key compartment in the Oxford and Sheraton. Their mechanical key-wound wall clocks also never fail to impress.
Comitti grandfather clocks are renowned workdwide for their craftsmanship. Their signature piece would have to be the Empire, with its solid mahogany cabinet, "antique" patina and 9-tube triple chime movement. However, we have also felt privileged to show the Trafalgar and its unique hand painted dial commemorating the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
